Two Top End tourism icons to commence an affiliation in Darwin, Australia
The Northern Territory’s largest backpacker hostel – Melaleuca on Mitchell (located at 52 Mitchell Street) and its adjacent motel, The Value Inn – are soon to become the newest associate properties to operate within the YHA Australia network. The two entities have recently signed an agreement that will co-brand them as ‘Darwin YHA – Melaleuca on Mitchell’ & ‘Darwin YHA – Value Inn’.
Both parties are looking forward to the synergy and prosperity that the alliance will bring to the NT’s backpacker and adventure tourism sector. As a joint local force, the organisations have a long history of supporting tourism in the Top End; YHA has had a continuous presence in Darwin for forty years, and Melaleuca on Mitchell and The Value Inn have been successfully operating since 2004 and 1995 respectively.
The new affiliation will commence in the second half of February 2017 (when the current Darwin YHA at 97 Mitchell Street closes) and will include a physical re-branding of the properties and their social media presence, accompanied by changes to aspects of sales, marketing and commercial operations (management remains the same). Robert Henke, Operations Manager for YHA, said: “YHA is proud to partner with Melaleuca on Mitchell to provide members and guests with a centrally located hostel with all the amenities that today’s backpackers seek, including not just one but two swimming pools. We look forward to a fruitful partnership in this new venture; Darwin YHA – Melaleuca on Mitchell”.
