Top things to see and do while in Miami Beach

Nov 14, 2019

Miami; the “city that keeps the roof blazing” according to Will Smith. Contrary to popular belief, there is actually much more to Miami Beach than 90s rap and catching some winter rays on the beach. Miami Beach won the title of North America’s Leading Tourist Board 2019 in the World Travel Awards, affirming its status as a key traveller destination. Aside from the year-long agenda of activities and events put on for tourists and locals alike, Miami Beach also has an unbeatable offer for the culture vultures among us. If you’re staying a few extra days in Miami Beach before or after STAY WYSE, then keep reading to find out our essential to-do list.

Soak up the architecture of the Art Deco Historic District

Spend an hour or two taking in the architecture while taking a stroll through the Art Deco Historic District in South Beach. Start in between 5th Street and Ocean Drive and find gems such as the Celino South Beach Hotel and the former home of Gianni Versace. If walking isn’t your thing, rent a bike and cycle along the famous boardwalk, stopping off and exploring the sights on the way. Home to 800 protected buildings, many of which have formed the set of Hollywood blockbusters. After seeing all this district has to offer, head to the nearby Lincoln Road for a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants, cafés and bars. Cuban sandwich, anyone?

Discover the historic side of Miami Beach

The Ancient Spanish Monastery has an interesting story; built in 1144 in Segovia, Northern Spain, the monastery was shipped to North Beach, brick by brick, in 1925 when millionaire William Hearst purchased it. This is now the oldest building in the Western hemisphere and definitely worth a visit.

Wynwood Walls

A 10-minute drive across to Miami takes you to the Wynwood Walls. Established in 2009, this outdoor museum of international street art and graffiti was founded by arts visionary Tony Goldman. The murals change to coincide with the annual Art Basel event, and are one of the mostly highly visited (and Instagrammed) attractions in the US.

… and breathe

Take a moment to relax and enjoy the sound of the waves at sunrise with a session of yoga on the beach. 3rd Street Beach Yoga offers drop in yoga classes for all levels; the 7am class is the perfect way to start a busy day of meetings and socialising at STAY WYSE.

Don’t forget…

Meet with STAY WYSE attendees over drinks and Cuban Music at the Welcome party on Monday 18 November at Freehand Miami, and cement those business contacts by the pool at the Networking party on Tuesday 19 November, hosted by Generator.
