Wombat’s City Hostel Leipzig opens new property in Leipzig, Germany

Mar 4, 2025

Wombat’s City Hostels, the award-winning European hostel group, has announced the opening of its newest property in Leipzig, Germany. Located in the heart of Leipzig’s city centre at the gateway to the historic Waldstraße district, Wombat’s City Hostel Leipzig represents the company’s strategic expansion into one of Germany’s fastest-growing cultural hubs.

The property, formerly known as “Sleepy Lion Hostel & Apartments,” has undergone a remarkable transition to incorporate Wombat’s signature design elements while preserving the building’s historic character. The result is a 196-bed facility that combines architectural heritage like high stucco ceilings with modern hospitality standards.

“Leipzig’s dynamic cultural scene and overall liveliness, combined with this ideal location – we are convinced that this will be another exciting place to stay for all kinds of travellers and another milestone in Wombat’s company history,” says Marcus Praschinger, Co-founder and Executice Director of Wombat’s City Hostels.

Perfect location
The hostel’s central location provides guests with immediate access to Leipzig’s key attractions, including St. Thomas Church, the university district, the Stasi Museum, Leipzig Zoo & Gondwanaland, and the city’s major sporting venues. Its proximity to the main railway station ensures convenient transportation connections for travellers.

Facilities and amenities
The property features:

  • 46 rooms, including private and female-only options
  • 196 beds
  • WomCAFÉ featuring local and Wombat’s signature beverages
  • Wombat’s essentials: En-suite bathrooms in all rooms, guest kitchen, safe locker room, laundry

The WomCAFÉ, the hostel’s social hub, offers a curated beverage menu including Wombat’s roast coffee, Austrian biodynamic Wieninger wines, and the signature “Path of the Wombat” Bevog craft beer.
