Generator appoints Xavier Mufraggi as CEO as hostel group targets global expansion
With more than two decades of leadership experience across hospitality, private equity and consumer brands, Mufraggi joins Generator after 12 years at Club Med, where he led the company’s North America & Caribbean and EMEA markets.
His appointment follows Brookfield’s EUR 776 million acquisition of Generator, with the company now preparing for further expansion. Generator currently operates 15 properties across Europe, with plans to double its portfolio by 2030, including three upcoming openings and 11 renovations planned throughout 2026 and 2027.
Speaking about the future of youth travel, Mufraggi said that young people are unlikely to reduce their desire to explore the world, even as economic pressures impact disposable income. He believes the demand for affordable, experience-led travel will continue to grow.
Generator’s approach focuses on combining accessible accommodation with design, local culture and social experiences. The brand aims to offer more than a place to stay, creating spaces where travellers can connect through events, activities and shared experiences.
“Generator is much more than just affordable accommodation. It responds to the desire for smart travel,” Mufraggi said, highlighting the importance of creating authentic spaces that reflect each destination while remaining accessible to travellers.
With ambitious growth plans ahead, Generator’s continued expansion reflects the wider evolution of the hostel sector, where affordability, community and memorable experiences are becoming increasingly important to today’s travellers.
